When the lead character in a movie has a pet; we feel instantly drawn to them as we perceive them as animal lovers, so they can’t be all bad. We always connect to the animals as well, as their loving emotions and loyalty typically win our hearts.

The most bizarre collection on a movie must be the weird and wonderful creature that featured in “Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events. Fish, cats, dogs and even snakes featured in this hit movie.

Let’s now have a look at some classic movies that have animals as their leads, and are absolutely brilliant.

101 Dalmatians has been both a Disney cartoon and a life action movie. The main human is the wicked Cruella Deville who wants Dalmatian puppies to turn their coats in her coats. It’s a great romp with Cruella getting her comeuppance in the end.

Dr Doolittle was a famous movie starring Rex Harrison, and a trilogy of films were made in recent years starring Eddie Murphy as the guy who could talk to animals, but didn’t want to! Murphy’s humor is great, but the animals may have stolen the show here.

A lot of animals in movies have been partners, or side kicks. We all remember Jim Carrey in the mask, and we also remember his little dog Milo, who was also a hero.

The most famous pet of them all may be Toto, Dorothy’s dog in the 1939 classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’. He is with her every step of the way and is actually the cause of her going to Oz in the first place. Nearly every child knows of Toto at some point, as the movie is a fixture in the world of classics.

Computer generated imagery has made animals seem lifelike and has added to the fun. What make it better is that the movie superstars are queuing up to give these cartoon wonders a voice.
