The United States of America has the well deserved reputation of being big. We could go on to say that it is more than big; it is grandiose, gigantic, and gargantuan even. To risk a pun, this would be no small statement. Would it not be given, then, that arts entertainment in America is pretty big as well?

The largeness of the country is a telling factor, in that everything from the place is seen as being huge. One great state alone, Texas, claims that everything is bigger there, and yet it is only one state of fifty neighbors. And when thinking of big and artistic, where is the home of the blockbuster film package deal? Hollywood, the trend setting capitol of the entire globe.

Oddly, as a city Hollywood is rather small. But for cultural impact it may only be rivaled by, perhaps, Paris or Berlin in the glorious days of their rampant influence. But the film industry is the greatest purveyor of what is considered taste in the entire world. People everywhere look to what this town produces as artistic guidelines for life itself. Now that is big and impressive.

Television, too, produced in the same small city, is at once everywhere at the same time. The little screens with the big money are literally in almost every home now, on every continent. No place now are without the means of receiving TV signals, and regular viewing fare is reaching other cultures far removed form itself. For better or for worse, television guides cultural change all over the map now.

American music, too, reaches every conceivable spot on any map. More than just offering aural delights, it offers an entire gamut of styles, fashions, and ways of living, mythologies, mysteries, language, and dreams to the entire universe. At least it seems that way when considering how far radio waves travel over time, and how much is literally flying through the air at any given moment. And many types of music are considered uniquely American at that. Think about rock and roll, the Motown sound, and jazz to name but a few.

As for what is termed high art, or classical art, there are no shortages of places to discover veritable artistic treasures in the States. The larger metropolitan areas, most notable New York and Los Angeles, are homes to several world class museums. From the most avant-garde of modern artists to the staid and true works of the masters, the country is rich in tradition. As with music, many artists have a distinctly native feel to their work, and it is shown proudly.

Perhaps nothing artistic is so unique the country as what is done with, and to, the automobile. Customizing cars began in the US, and is practice with a fervor simply not seen anywhere else. This may be due to the size of the country and the interstate systems, but it is huge, and obviously here to stay. This art form has its own heroes and madmen, and cars will never be seen as the same old thing every again, thanks to American zealots.

Arts entertainment in America is indeed huge. By the dint of sheer overwhelming numbers the film and television industries are world wide, the local music is global, and many other arts unique to the country are recognized everywhere.
