What readers either those who do it as a hobby or just to improve their comprehension in a specific language love is reading stories that have characters that encourage them to guess and be creative all the time, i.e. a character who manages to play more than one role in the story will encourage them t read more and more of the story.

If you are a writer and are good at this then for real, most people will prefer reading your book more often and even recommend others to do so.

If you also make the character so something intriguing it will also capture the attention of the readers, let’s say for example an old woman keeps two boyfriend to herself and does not tell any of the boyfriends that there is another partner in the relationship until she gets caught.

Or another example, the police are the ones people rely on for security yet you change their characters and tell how the police are involved in numerous crimes, or someone is involved in different home breaking until he gets caught only to discover that it is one of their faithful neighbors who has been doing all this, not because he likes it but he is trying to help his own father.

It is not necessarily that you allow the bad guy in the book to always play the bad roles instead, you can also provide a good role that the plays contrary to the reader so that you can continue to keep the reader guessing.

If it is the old people, the society expects him/her to rest yet in the book you can give her an active role to play, a role that you think should be played by the youth.

Let’s say you have the grandmother going water skiing and bungee jump, or better still she dyes her hair and applies make up all over just like a teen. If it is the grandpa, he goes on skating with the grandchildren and in fact beats them in skating.

This will ensure that your readers continue reading your books over and over since they are not able to get what they expect and instead they get something different.
