Classic Cartoon Characters That Still Make Us Smile
If you are a fan of classic cartoon characters from the past, then this is the article for you. We’ve put together this guide to some of the most iconic characters of all time to give you a chance to reminisce over some of your favorite cartoon creations. We start with Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner, the duo that are probably most famous for their Acme products, high speed chases and the coyote falling off quite a lot of cliffs – it certainly made for a lot of cartoon comedy gold.
For another funny cartoon duo you don’t have to look any further than the cat and mouse combination of Tom and Jerry. They always managed to get the audience laughing at the way they would chase each other around a variety of locations, most notably their house, and fight endlessly with only the briefest periods of detente in between. They are now proper classics and are still extremely popular even decades after they were first created and shown on screen.
Another great classic cartoon combination is Sylvester the ‘evil’ cat and goody-two-shoes Tweety Pie, the tiny yellow bird. To their owner, Tweety Pie can do no wrong whereas Sylvester is always suspected of wanting to eat the bird and, while this might largely be true of Sylvester, Tweety is nowhere near as innocent as he makes out. He has quite a few schemes of his own and a lot of the humor and drama comes from this fact in this very popular classic cartoon.
Another brilliant cartoon classic was The Flintstones. Interestingly, they are the only human classic cartoon characters to make the list, but it’s testament to how funny and popular they are that they did make it. Fred and Wilma Flintstone are a Stone Age couple who live with their pet dinosaur, Dino. On the face of it, they live ordinary lives but with prehistoric twists, such as cars made out of stone. Their neighbors, the Rubbles, also add some comedy to the whole thing.
The last entry takes us back to the animal kingdom and Garfield the cat. He was originally a comic strip creation but proved to be so popular he ended up with his own television show and then became a film star, making him a truly classic character. He has some rather odd character traits that got people addicted to him, such as the fact he is fat, loves lasagna, is extremely lazy, adores sleeping and is immensely sarcastic – it all adds up to one of the best-loved characters around.
