Money Or Happiness?
I’d like to give my input on this long time question from which I have real world experience on. When it comes down to real inner happiness money does not play into the equation at all.
They teach us at a young age that we are supposed to be productive and make money to be successful in life. This is partially true since without structure and responsibilities life can become quite chaotic.
One important thing they leave out in the equation of life is that it is much more satisfying to be pursuing something we love and helping others by exposing our gifts to the world creates a much more meaningful and fulfilling existence the just working for money to get through life.
There are clues given to us in life and we are given things for a reason, these clues help direct us to a meaningful life. What if Mozart never played the piano and followed his dreams. He may have been a banker or a butcher and always had an emptiness within for not following his God given talent and chasing his bliss.
How do I know what my calling is you ask? If its not obvious like it is for some people you need to listen for it. Take some time to be silent and go beneath your thoughts to where the answers lie. Listen to your spirit and it will guide you in the right direction. Meditation is a great way of doing this and I highly recommend doing it on a regular basis.
I have an engineering degree and I started my own successful company and ran it for about 10 years before pursuing my passion of comedy at the age of 38. This was the first time I stepped on stage. Its never too late to chase your dreams, my one friend from NYC was 82 when he began performing comedy. He is still going strong and he is a youthful 85 now, amazing isn’t it!
Don’t just live to make money, find your passion and chase it. Money will not ease your empty soul no matter now much you earn. The ego always craves more and regardless of how much you earn it will never be enough. It took me almost 20 years to find this out and I hope you will discover sooner. I wish you the best of luck in whatever path you take. Face your fear directly, don’t give up on your dreams, do what you love and get out there and live life.
