Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a job where all you had to do is poke fun at celebrites and reality television and get paid for it? Actually there is and the witty Joel McHale, funny host of the Soup has it already.

The Soup as it’s now called, started out as Talk Soup in 1991 with then host Greg Kinnear. Over the years many different hosts have done the show including Aisha Tyler and John Henson. Joel McHale joined the show in 2004 and after a few tweaks and a name change the show was rescurrected to his former glory days.

While it started with the new name the What The? Awards it was quickly renamed The Soup ” and thank goodness for that. Its current name is not only much easier to remember but recognizes its roots of the original Talk Soup.

Joel McHale has not only made a name for himself with viewers, but also the big name Hollywood executives. His popularity amongst them is now on the rise with offers of movies and television series.

Joel McHale has always said that he came to Hollywood to make movies and his dream is about to come true when The Informant is released in September 2009 which he plays an FBI agent alongside Matt Damon and Scott Bakula.

The Soup has a number of popular segments including Chat Stew, Chicks Man, Reality Show Clip Time, and Lets Take Some E! which focus of different television genres.

Characters also feature prominently in the show with Mankini, Matt the Intern, the Star Wars nerds and the dancing maxipad favorites with viewers. More recently new character Spaghetti Cat has proven popular with whole websites being dedicated to him (or is it her? ” I can never tell with spaghetti cats).

Lou the Chihuahua is another favourite character on the show but is not owned by Joel McHale as some people think. Lou is actually owned by executive producer Edward Boyd.

The Soup also often produce special episodes of its content under the header The Soup Presents which focus on themed clips including popular favorites, with end of year specials featuring the best clips of that year in its Clipdown episodes.

There is no doubt for fans that Joel McHale did save The Soup but once his movie career takes off and he leaves to pursue acting its anyones guess what will happen with the show.
