Sports trivia has become the equivalent of everyday knowledge. If you ask a sports fan, he or she may know more than the common person, but everyone knows certain things about the sports world, like Lakers guard Ervin Johnson’s nickname (Magic), George Herman Ruth’s nickname, and many other small facts in the sports world.

Here are some more that may interest you. They cover all sports, and some of these are simply amazing. There’s no doubt that you’ll be pretty surprised by some of the things that you see.

During a game in 1972 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues, the Penguins scored a total of 5 goals in a period of two minutes and seven seconds, the most ever scored in such a short time.

In 1972, there was a regional boys’ basketball tournament held in Sweden. The final score of the game? 274 to 0. And 272 of the points were scored by the same kid.

How about this one? Which sport do more people participate in than any other in the world? I bet you’re thinking something like soccer, or basketball, or even running. It’s not any of those. Who would have guessed that it’s fishing?

A man by the name of Robert Wyler, from Glendale, CA, has played as many as 1,000 games of chess, all through the mail.

Spring training isn’t called spring training because of the time of year it takes place during. It all has to do with the fact that the 1885 White Sox decided to practice in Hot Springs, Arkansas before the start of the season.

A golfer by the name of Art Wall, Jr. hit 37 holes in one through the span of his career. This is more than any other golfer can claim.

Shaquille O’Neal’s shoe size is a 22. All of his sneakers are specially made for him and his huge feet.

Before baseball games in 1859, umpires used to literally sit behind home plate in a rocking chair. Sounds like a pretty relaxing job.

Ari Petrof, from Sweden, set a record by staying in a sauna for longer than anyone ever had before. 5 hours, and 10 minutes. This sauna was 212 degrees. Needless to say, he probably needed a towel.
